Formally known as the Virginia Marine Science Museum, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is one of the best museums of Virginia Beach located just south of Rudee Inlet. It houses two main buildings including the Bay and Ocean Pavilion and the Marsh Pavilion, which are connected by a one-third mile outdoor nature trail running alongside Owls Creek Salt Marsh.
The Bay and Ocean Pavilion – This building of the museum includes - the Norfolk Canyon aquarium that displays the underwater environment just off the coast of Virginia and various marine animals like sharks, stingrays. Besides, it also includes the IMAX 3D Theater and Osprey Café.
The Marsh Pavilion - This building of the museum exhibits various marsh creatures like - otters, seahorses, snakes and more.
Entirely all the exhibits of both buildings are contained in over 700,000 gallons of fresh and saltwater displays which is quite amazing. Other than this, the museum’s newest series of exhibits known as "Restless Planet" is also quite excellent, including - four habitats: Malaysian Peat Swamp, Coastal Sahara Desert, Red Sea, and Indonesia's Flores Island. |
